But head and shoulders above all, both in longevity and continued excellence, is Harper's Weekly (and its later successor, Harper's Monthly Magazine. ) The very precepts of American journalism, which would grow through the muckrakers cultivated by S. S. McClure, have their foundation well before the Civil War in the pages of Harper's. And the illustrators who are now revered, who are featured their own postage stamps, began with the war artists working in woodcuts, and later half-tone illustrations, in the pages of Harpers. I have found a number of good condition vintage Harper's Weekly at estate sales, and I will now give you a description of the contents and condition of this one.The main features are in blue above; and of course, there's many pages of period ads!
