Up for Auction is a most unusual Collection of Cigar Bands. The "eccentric" great uncle of one of my 91-year-old father's friends collected these in Charlotte, NC, in the decade before World War I. Most of them are either Havana or Tampa, but there are also obscure makers from around the Carolinas and the Midwest and the Northeast, There are bands from cigars given away in political campaigns, named after burlesque stars, famous military officers, etc. There are at least 327 of them - I went through the little book page by page and quickly listed what I could read. Some names Googled, just out of curiosity. It was fun, I've had my little history lesson, and now its time for someone else to pick through this odd little collection. I took random pictures of some representative pages to demonstrate that these are not pristine cigar bands collected by a sophisticated collector - just some old fellow trying to remember his smokes. I have included my list below - please excuse my typing, it was a once-through look see.
