1887; Mrs. Rorer's Cook Book Cookbook: Ladies Home Journal Very Nice CondtMrs. Rorer's Cook BookArnold and Co. Sarah Tyson Heston Rorer (1849-1937) was a teacher of cooking, cookbook author, and dietitian. This is the book which brought her national attention. In 1880 she became director of the New Century Club in Philadelphia and studied physiology, anatomy and chemistry, partly through lectures at the Woman"s Medical College of Pennsylvania. In 1883 she opened her own Philadelphia Cooking School, where she also taught destitute young women. Her "diet kitchen" met the medical needs of patients at the University of Pennsylvania Medical School hospital, and she lectured on diet at other medical schools and hospitals. A number of her graduates became hospital dietitians. Mrs. Rorer had a long association with the Ladies" Home Journal as its domestic editor and, later was in charge of the culinary department of Good Housekeeping. Hardcover in Very Good Condition: No loose or missing pages, binding firm and tight. No highlighting or underlining. Several additional recipes written on blank pages. Cover has minor shelf wear. One very minor 1" drop spot to page edges - no mustiness. Front and back paper hinges wearing through. Book looks very presentable. 581 pages, 1887, 7.5x5.5" k-h-534 red
