1880's Southern 4-Block "Tinker's Tobacco Leaf & Tulip" Applique Antique Quilt! This MAGNIFICENT cotton 1880's (or earlier) quilt is hand appliqued and hand quilted, done in the traditional four block design with 9-patch blocks in the corners. The quilt is likely southern, from North Carolina or Kentucky, and is known as "Tulip & Plume," or "Tinker's Tobacco Leaf & Tulip," named for the metal applique templates created by traveling tinsmith's.The quilt measures 74" X 76" and is in very good condition, with light surface dirt, the occasional age spot, and no wear. The unstable dyes have mellowed evenly throughout except for one strip of vibrant red in the border that held its original color. There is quilting around and within the piecework and in straight line and vine designs in the background, all at 6-7 stitches to the inch. The back and hand stitched binding are white, and the batting is thin. You can see cotton seed residue inside when you hold the quilt up to the light. The AMAZING DESIGN and DENSE APPLIQUE make this 19th century COLLECTOR'S QUILT stand out -- TRULY MUSEUM QUALITY!See 600+ MORE antique quilts in my eBay Store!
