1876 PHILADELPHIA CENTENNIAL EXPOSITION - SULPHIDE GLASS BROOCH - MAIN BUILDING A Sulphide brooch featuring the Main Building at the 1876 Philadelphia Centennial Exposition. The brooch is oval with a twisted brass frame with thick glass to allow for the raised central decoration. The back is covered in a thick black paper. The item measures 1.7 inches wide and 1.4 inches high and has a depth of 0.3 inches. CONDITION:- The brooch shows considerable signs of age and use. There is some bending to the metal frame, surface scratching to the glass as well as some tiny chips around the edge and a larger chip on the right hand side (as viewed in photograph). There is some surface discolouration to the black around the image and also some wear to the black surface on the reverse. Finally, the pin has been broken off and the fastening hook is bent.
