1871 MARSHALL & SONS SCOTTISH STERLING APOSTLE SPOON Presented is a fine Scottish sterling silver apostle spoon by Marshall & Sons. The handle is cast in the form of a man holding a book in his left hand and a cross in his right hand. The apostle stands on a pedestal supported by the shaft of the spoon which is in the form of intricate intertwining branches. The handle joins the large oval bowl with a rat-tail reinforcement down the back of the bowl. The entire spoon is gilded. The spoon is very nicely cast with great hand chased detail. The spoon is hallmarked on the reverse with the thistle for sterling silver, the three tower mark for Edinburgh, the date letter "P" for 1871, Victoria's head, and a maker's mark of M & S for Marshall & Sons. The condition is excellent. T are no dents, no dings, no monograms, no monogram removals, no breaks, and no repairs. PLEASE NOTE: The black lines and spots on the bowl of the spoon in the first photo are the reflection of the camera lens. They are not flaws or damages. The spoon is 7 1/4 inches long. The weight is 64.6 grams or 2.3 ounces.
