And he wrote an incredible opus on the human race, titled The Uncivilized Races, Or, Natural History of Man. Being a Complete Account of the Manners and Customs, and the Physical, Social and Religious Condition and Characteristics of the Uncivilized Races of Men Throughout the Entire World. WE ARE OFFERING the above book, By Rev. J.G. Wood, the only authorized and unabridged edition published in the USA, published by American Publishing Co., Hartford, CT, 1870. This is the same company that had just published Mark Twain's first significant book, Innocents Abroad, the year before. In two large leather bound volumes, each book 10x7 inches, over 1700 pages in all. Bound in leather at the spine, leather grained cloth at the boards. Marbled page blocks. Some edge wear, but the hinges are holding. Profusely illustrated with HUNDREDS of engravings. Note the frontispiece print, showing grateful uncivilized men crowding around a Victorian figure, teaching them civilization.
