Bill Ralph Blass was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana, on June 22, 1922. In 1939, at the age of seventeen, he moved to Manhattan to study fashion. Later, Ralph took a job as a sketch artist for a sportswear business. He began his fashion career in 1945, after serving in World War II. In 1999 Blass sold his company, Bill Blass Limited, which had been established in the 1970s, to Michael Groveman. He died at the age of 79, in 2002, because of throat cancer. This particular Bill Blass clothing label is from a vintage jacket.
