Rowland Hussey Macy established Macy's in 1851 in Haverhill, Massachusetts. He moved to New York City in 1858, and established a new store named R.H. Macy & Co. Macy died in 1877 but the ownership of the company remained in the Macy family until 1895. In the 1920s the company was considered to be the world's largest store. R.H. Macy went public in 1922 and this began a period of expansion within the company. In 1994, the company merged with Federated Department Store. By 2016, Macy's was operating 888 stores. Macy's produced Aloha shirts also. The Aloha Shirt was first sold at "Musashi-ya Shoten" in Honolulu. "Musashi-ya" was established by Japanese immigrant Chotaro Miyamoto in 1904. This particular clothing label is from a Hawaiian shirt.
