Maria Adelaide Nielli was born in 1883 in Turin, Italy. She moved to France in 1895 when she was 12. She married the Italian jeweller and composer Luigi ricci in 1904, thus becoming Maria Ricci. She set up the House of Nina Ricci when she was almost 50, in 1932, helped by her son, Robert. Nina Ricci died in 1970 and Robert ricci died in 1988. The company was taken over by Nina Ricci's son-in-law, Gilles Fuchs. This particular Nina Ricci clothing label is from a 1970s bathing suit.
