John Redfern was born in 1820 in the United Kingdom. He founded Redfern in Cowes on the Isle of Wight. That developed into a leading European couture house. In 1881 Redfern opened in Paris and in 1896, in New York. Redfern closed in London in 1929 and in Paris in 1940, but in the US the label was acquired by the Cohen, Friedlander, and Martin Company. This particular Redfern clothing label is from a 1890s dress.
