Rudi Gernreich was born in 1922 in Vienna, Austria. He and his family moved to Los Angeles in 1938 as jewish refugees. He started his fashion career in 1951 at Walter Bass. He is most well known for his design of the first topless swimsuit, Monokini. Gernreich retired in 1968 and died in 1985. This particular Rudi Gernreich clothing label is from a 1960s dress.
