JJ Pfister Knitting Company was established in 1876 in San Francisco. Two employees of the company, John Gantner and Alfred Mattern, started their own company in the 1910s. Gantner-Mattern was sold to Hathaway in 1954. The label was liquidated in 1958. This particular Gantner-Mattern clothing label is from a 1950s woman's swimsuit.
