Oscar Aristides Renta Fiallo was born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, in 1932. He moved to Spain at the age of 18 to study painting. He started to work as a fashion designer with Balenciaga. In 1961, he left to Paris to work at Lavin. Oscar de la Renta worked also with Arden and Jane Derby in New York. From 1993 to 2002 he designed the haute couture collection for Balmain. He started his own label in 2003. Oscar de la Renta died in 2014. This particular Oscar de la Renta clothing label is from a 1970s evening dress.
