Hardy Amies was born on 17 July 1909 in London. He died in 2003, age 93. He started as a designer at Lachasse in 1934 and in late 1945 he established his own couture fashion house business: Hardy Amies Ltd. He is best known for being dressmaker for Queen Elisabeth II, from 1952 until his retirement in 1989. This particular Hardy Amies clothing label is from an early 1970s coat.
