Augustus Heisey was born in Germany in 1842. He established Heisey Glass in Newark, Ohio, in 1895. The Heisey company has a reputation for producing good quality pressed glass. The company continued to produce glass until it closed in 1957. In 1958, many of the Heisey molds were bought by the Imperial Glass Company, which continued to produce some of the Heisey patterns until it closed in 1984. The Stanhope pattern is one of the numerous glass patterns of the company. It was used from 1936 to 1941, and can be seen here on a creamer.
